The role of the Liaison Group is to:
• Raise the profile of the Surrey Heathland Partnership amongst our key stakeholders and to new interested parties
• Promote and discuss what heathland management work we are carrying out in partnership, where and why
• Consider the longer term, viable sustainable management of this nationally rare, threatened habitat right on our doorstep
• Share management practices, ideas and key information between partner organisations
• Work together to find means to generate more income and support of our work to ensure its continued operation, including engaging the local communities
• Strengthen communication and collaborative working by sharing contacts and ideas for developing new corporate partnerships and identifying potential benefactors
The Group meets informally for site visits (which rotate around the core funding partner areas: Guildford BC, Woking BC and Waverley BC) to see and discuss the heathland management/restoration work (which includes conservation grazing) being carried out by the Surrey Heathland Partnership in partnership with the relevant partner (to the site being visited), principally under Natural England's Higher Level Stewardship agreement. There is also the opportunity to find out more about our wider partnership countryside management service.
